Who says that the pain of a broken heart is less when the relationship lasted a short time, that only the end of a longer relationship deserves tears? A broken heart is a broken heart. There is no hierarchy of pain.

When bad things happen to good people the natural, and very normal, response is to scream “it’s not fair!” But it’s what we choose to do about it that counts. Choose life.

Pain is Inevitable, Suffering is Not. I used to want to scream at people who said that. But it’s true. Allowing ourselves to feel empathy and compassion for others’ pain makes us human.
